ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS), a division of the global ZF Group, has secured a significant multi-year contract with a major Indian commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturer, ZF group announced today. The deal involves the supply of several thousand units of ZF’s AxTrax 2 electric axle, marking a notable step in the adoption of electric mobility in India’s intercity bus segment.
AxTrax 2 is ZF’s next-generation integrated electric axle designed for medium-duty buses. It replaces the traditional engine, transmission, and axle configuration, combining all components into a single, modular unit. This solution is part of ZF’s broader e-mobility platform and supports the shift towards cleaner transport options.
The axle is developed using ZF’s in-house expertise in powertrain and e-mobility systems. Its compact structure helps reduce vehicle weight and optimize space, providing commercial vehicle manufacturers with flexibility in platform design.
According to ZF Group India President Akash Passey, the contract reflects the company’s consistent engagement with India’s CV sector and its focus on safety, efficiency, and mobility technologies. “This business nomination highlights our role in supporting the evolving needs of our OEM partners,” Passey said.

ZF is currently the leading supplier of driveline and transmission systems in the country. The company’s offerings cover key domains such as electric mobility, automated driving, and digitalization. Through partnerships with local OEMs, ZF aims to enhance the full lifecycle of commercial vehicles, aligning with India’s broader goals for sustainable transportation.
India’s commercial vehicle industry is undergoing a transition, driven by stricter emission norms, government incentives, and the need to reduce operating costs. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, along with state-level policies, has encouraged OEMs to explore electric alternatives, especially for public transport and logistics. Intercity and intracity buses have become early adopters in the electric segment due to defined routes and predictable usage patterns.
