ZF, a global supplier of driveline and chassis technology, announced it has secured three orders that place it at the center of India's push toward more robust vehicle safety testing. The wins span battery testing, tyre testing and e-axle testing, areas the company said are becoming increasingly important as India tightens its regulatory framework for vehicle certification.

The company said the orders mark the first time it has secured business from three independent automotive testing agencies in India operating under the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and the central government. ZF Test Systems also said its work emphasizes local content in line with the government's "Make in India" initiative, and pointed to its track record of testing more than 100 million transmissions globally as evidence of its experience in the sector.

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India, said testing agencies serve as the final checkpoint for vehicle safety and that being selected across three separate disciplines reflected confidence in ZF's accuracy and understanding of India's regulatory landscape. Thomas Trebitsch, Vice President of ZF Test Systems and Testing, said the company has spent recent years building out its presence in India's tyre industry and introducing its broader testing portfolio as the market moves toward stricter safety regulation.

On the battery side, ZF said its systems are designed for electric vehicle applications, covering testing from the cell to the module to the full pack level, including performance, environmental and mechanical abuse testing. The company said its systems comply with UL, IEC, UN, IS and automotive standards such as LV124, and also support end-of-line production validation.

For tyre testing, ZF pointed to India's move to mandate testing under the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP), Quality Control Orders and the AIS 142 TPMS mandate, which requires real-time tyre pressure monitoring on new passenger vehicles. The company's Tyre Efficiency Tester, known as TET.lab, is described by ZF as a high-precision rolling resistance testing platform compliant with global rolling resistance regulations, with a modular design that can accommodate motorcycles, passenger cars, light trucks and heavy commercial vehicles. ZF said more than 500 million tyres are tested annually across its tyre test systems worldwide.

In e-mobility and powertrain testing, ZF said its test benches use a high-performance drive module paired with a customizable receiving module, allowing the platform to handle both conventional transmissions and electric drivetrains across fixed, inclinable or swiveling configurations.

ZF said the orders reflect its broader ambition to support India's development of a safer, more sustainable automotive ecosystem as regulatory requirements continue to tighten.

ZF is a global technology company that supplies mobility products and systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial applications. The company reported sales of €41.4 billion in fiscal 2024 and employs roughly 161,600 people across 161 production locations in 30 countries.
