ZELIO Ebikes launches Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS E-Rickshaws, starting at Rs 1.40 lakh

ZELIO Ebikes has entered the e-rickshaw segment with the launch of its first models, Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. These e-rickshaws are priced at INR 1,45,000 for the Tanga Butterfly and Rs 1,40,000 for the Tanga SS (ex-showroom). The models were earlier showcased at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

The Tanga Butterfly, constructed with mild steel (MS), and the Tanga SS, made from stainless steel (SS), mark ZELIO's expansion into the shared mobility market. Both models are aimed at urban and semi-urban commuters, catering to the growing need for last-mile connectivity in India.

Both e-rickshaws feature a top speed of 30 km/h and offer a range of 100 km on a single charge. They are powered by a 1200W motor and run on a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, which requires approximately eight hours for a full charge. The vehicles are equipped with an SMPS charger that includes voltage fluctuation protection.

The Tanga Butterfly will be available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.

Speaking on the launch, Kunal Arya, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ZELIO Ebikes, remarked that entering the e-rickshaw segment aligns with ZELIO’s objective of contributing to India’s electric mobility sector. He noted that the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS are designed with a focus on safety, performance, and affordability, ensuring they meet the needs of a wide range of customers.

In terms of safety and comfort, the models are equipped with advanced braking systems. They feature a front lever-operated drum brake, a rear paddle-operated drum brake, and a hand lever-operated parking brake. For improved ride quality, the front suspension includes 43mm telescopic hydraulic shockers, while the rear uses leaf spring shockers. Both e-rickshaws are fitted with TVS-made 3.75-12 mm tires on the front and rear wheels.

The chassis is constructed using a high-rigidity monocoque frame. With a wheelbase of 2030 mm, a length of 2690 mm, a width of 1000 mm, a height of 1710 mm, and a ground clearance of 200 mm, the models are designed to handle urban and semi-urban roads effectively.

Additional features include a wide front glass with a wiper, LED headlamps with DRL, LED cabin light, and LED indicators. Passenger and driver conveniences include a digital meter, FM radio with double speakers, heavy curtains, a bottle holder, a cash pocket, and central locking. Accessories such as a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack are also provided.

ZELIO has partnered with financing firms AKASHA and TRY Wheels to facilitate easier purchasing options for customers. The company is also working to establish a dedicated dealership network to support the new segment.

Since its establishment in 2021, ZELIO has developed a presence in the Indian electric vehicle market with 273 dealerships and a customer base exceeding 200,000. The company plans to increase its dealership count to 400 by March 2025 as it continues to expand its portfolio and presence in sustainable transportation solutions.
