Zelio E-Mobility Opens Coimbatore Plant to Expand in South India
Electric two-wheeler maker Zelio E-Mobility has launched a new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, adding 60,000 units of annual capacity and taking total installed production capacity to 240,000 units as it expands further across southern India.
Zelio E-Mobility, an electric two- and three-wheeler manufacturer, has opened a new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, as part of its expansion into South Indian markets.
The facility, located on Trichy Road in Coimbatore, spans approximately 39,000 sq. ft. and will handle electric scooter assembly, storage, logistics and related operations. It began operations on the day of the announcement and is expected to serve markets in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and South Maharashtra.
The plant has an installed capacity of 60,000 units per year. In its initial phase, the company expects to manufacture and assemble between 24,000 and 30,000 electric two-wheelers annually, with output scaling up gradually alongside demand.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, the company expects the facility to strengthen dealer penetration, improve after-sales service and enhance supply chain efficiency in the region, while also contributing to revenue and market share.
The Coimbatore unit currently employs 30 people directly and is expected to add more than 100 personnel in the coming months, as part of the company's broader target of surpassing 500 employees this financial year. The plant was set up with a capital investment of up to Rs 1 crore and will assemble electric two-wheeler models from the company's existing product line; details of upcoming models have not yet been announced.
With the addition of the Coimbatore unit, Zelio E-Mobility's manufacturing network now includes plants in Ladwa (2,63,450 sq. ft.) and Patan (2,52,301 sq. ft.) in Haryana, and Cuttack (30,500 sq. ft.) in Odisha. Prior to the new facility, the company's installed capacity stood at 1,80,000 units annually; the Coimbatore addition takes this to 2,40,000 units, a 33% increase.
The company said the new facility follows the same manufacturing standards and quality protocols as its existing plants, and that further updates on technology and sustainability initiatives would be announced later.
