Yamaha has officially unveiled the EC-06, an electric scooter derived from the River Indie platform. As we first reported earlier, Yamaha has been developing its own version of the Indie, and the EC-06 marks the first product born from that collaboration.

While the EC-06 shares its 4kWh battery pack and 6.7kW peak power motor with the River Indie — resulting in an identical top speed of 90kph — Yamaha has made several key changes to differentiate its version. The scooter retains the same basic chassis and feature set, including a colour LCD display, three riding modes, and reverse assist.

Yamaha claims an IDC range of 160km on a single charge, but a full charge takes around nine hours, making it one of the slower-charging models in the segment.

The biggest change lies in its design and practicality. The EC-06 adopts a boxier and sharper aesthetic, in contrast to the Indie’s rounded, fluid styling. However, storage capacity has taken a hit — the EC-06 offers 24.5 litres of underseat space, compared to the Indie’s cavernous 43 litres.
