India Yamaha Motor has announced the launch of its first electric scooter, the EC-06, priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The model will be available initially in select cities through the company's premium Blue Square showrooms.
The EC-06 features a certified range of 169 kilometres on a single charge, positioning it as a viable option for daily urban commuting. The scooter is powered by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor paired with a 4kWh fixed battery, delivering a top speed of 79 km/h and maximum torque of 26 Nm.
Yamaha has designed the EC-06 with three riding modes—Eco, Standard, and Power—allowing riders to adjust performance based on their preferences. The vehicle also includes a reverse mode for easier maneuvering in tight spaces. Charging the battery to full capacity takes approximately eight hours using a standard home plug-in connection.
The scooter comes equipped with a 200mm disc brake system on both front and rear wheels, along with a Combi Brake System for enhanced stability. A colour LCD display provides real-time information on speed, battery status, and riding modes. The model also integrates Yamaha's "Yamaha Motor Connect R" app for connectivity features.
Safety features include IP67 certification for the motor and battery, and IP65 certification for other electronics, providing protection against water and dust. The battery is backed by a three-year or 30,000-kilometre warranty. Under-seat storage capacity stands at 24.5 litres.
Mr. Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, stated that the EC-06 represents an important step in the company's approach to sustainable urban mobility. He noted that the launch aligns with India's transition toward carbon-neutral transportation and supports government initiatives such as the National Mission on Transformative Mobility.
The EC-06 launch comes as India expands its electric vehicle infrastructure through initiatives including the Production Linked Incentive scheme. Yamaha developed the model in India, incorporating local manufacturing in line with the Make in India program.
The scooter is currently available only in Bluish White colour. Yamaha operates manufacturing facilities in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, producing motorcycles and scooters for both domestic and export markets.
