Xiaomi EV has unveiled the SkyNomad, its second vehicle series, expanding its electric vehicle portfolio beyond the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV. The new model range is positioned as an intelligent, reconfigurable large-space SUV and is designed around flexible interior usage rather than outright performance.

According to the company, the SkyNomad series has been developed to cater to buyers who use a single vehicle for multiple purposes, including daily commuting, family travel and working from the vehicle. Xiaomi says the cabin has been designed to function as an adaptable living space, with the interior capable of switching between passenger, cargo, workspace and lounge configurations.

The SUV is underpinned by Xiaomi's newly developed Kunlun Architecture, which enables a flat-floor layout and a long-track seating system intended to maximise interior flexibility. The platform also integrates the company's artificial intelligence capabilities, connected device ecosystem and smart manufacturing technologies to support the vehicle's adaptive interior functions.

Xiaomi said the concept behind the SkyNomad project emerged in early 2023 as changing consumer usage patterns increasingly prioritised cabin versatility over traditional measures such as seating capacity or interior comfort. The company noted that vehicles are increasingly being used as mobile workspaces, family activity areas and temporary living spaces in addition to transportation.

The SkyNomad series is aimed at professionals and families looking for a single vehicle capable of fulfilling multiple roles throughout the day. Xiaomi said the product has undergone three-and-a-half years of development and will initially be launched in mainland China. Pricing, technical specifications and launch timelines have not yet been disclosed.

"Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you," said Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, in a Weibo post describing the development of the SkyNomad.
