Volvo Trucks India, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), showcased its revolutionary Volvo FM 4X2 Electric Highway Tractor Truck at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in Delhi. Aligned with the commitment of Volvo Group and VECV to achieve carbon neutrality, this unveiling signifies Volvo's dedication to providing diverse alternate fuel solutions to its customers.
Globally, Volvo has already made strides in the electric truck sector, delivering over 5000 medium and heavy-duty electric trucks for various applications. In India, the initial offering will be the versatile FM 4x2 electric tractor, catering to Express logistics, Container movement, Car carriers, Reefers, and mineral transport. The electric truck boasts a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of 44 tons, a motor capacity of 490 kW, and a battery capacity of 540 kWh, providing a range of 250-300 km depending on the route and load.
“As one of the largest producers of trucks in the world, Volvo Trucks has a range of alternate fuel solutions. Last year we successfully demonstrated LNG trucks in India and are ready for commercial sales of these LNG -powered trucks. We are now in advanced trials in real-world Indian conditions for our Electric trucks in express cargo movement. Upon successful completion, we will be offering these to our customers. While our clean diesel and LNG-powered trucks will be used for longer range applications, the Volvo FM 4X2 Electric Highway Tractor will serve shorter runs and regional haul.” said Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd.
Volvo's electric trucks offers cutting-edge Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features, including Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking, a Driver Alert System, and Lane Changing Support.
By introducing Electric trucks, Volvo takes a significant step towards being the sole truck brand offering and supporting heavy-duty diesel, LNG, and Electric trucks in India. This move is in perfect alignment with Volvo's core values of Safety, Quality, and Environmental Care, showcasing its dedication to sustainable and diversified transportation solutions.
