Volvo CE drives sustainable construction at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India showcased its groundbreaking zero-emission construction and mining equipment at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

Among the highlights was the DD40 Electric mini asphalt compactor, a significant achievement as Bharat's first electric road machinery designed, developed, and built locally. Fueled by advanced chemistry Lithium-ion batteries, this compact yet powerful machine promises cleaner and quieter urban road construction. The exhibit also featured the L120 Electric Wheel Loader, an electric adaptation of Volvo's renowned 6-tonne wheel loader, setting new benchmarks for sustainable material handling in various industries.

Volvo CE's commitment to sustainability extends beyond product innovation. In 2023, the company launched a series of zero-emission machines, including the EC500 Electric, India’s first grid-connected electric excavator in the 50-ton class, and the PT220 Electric Asphalt Compactor, designed for smooth and emission-free road construction. Volvo CE is actively contributing to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aligning with strict emission regulations and fostering a cleaner, quieter future for the construction industry in India.

Speaking about the company's participation, Dimitrov Krishnan, MD, Volvo CE India said “Being the third largest and one of the fastest growing CE markets in the world, we feel this is the time to accelerate a technological shift towards electrification for domestic and export markets. We already see a lot of curiosity and interest from our early adopter customers and with government support fleet electrification in CE industry can take off just like in automotive. We believe a few initiatives including CE industry in FAME scheme, reducing GST to 5% on electric machines, and creating EV-friendly infrastructure tenders can be big enablers to set the ball rolling. Our participation in the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 showcases our dedication to shaping a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future for the construction industry in India.”

Beyond electric innovation, Volvo CE is taking a holistic approach by introducing new-age service solutions. These include Equipment as a Service, a value-added scalable service bundling cutting-edge equipment with efficiency measures, and productivity services. The company's focus on supporting customer success aligns with its vision for a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable construction industry in India.
