Volkswagen India today said that its Virtus model has surpassed 50,000 units in domestic wholesale sales over 28 months since its launch. The company reported that the Virtus has become India's highest-selling premium sedan for 2024, with over 17,000 units sold to date this year.

The Virtus has maintained a consistent sales rate of nearly 60 units per day since its market debut in 2022, Volkswagen India said. This performance has contributed to the company’s overall domestic sales, which recently crossed the 6.5 lakh unit milestone. The company's India 2.0 models, including the Virtus and Taigun, have accounted for approximately 18.5% of domestic volumes in just over three years since their introduction.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said the company is immensely grateful to its customers for making the Volkswagen Virtus India's No.1 selling premium sedan. “…crossing the 50,000 sales mark is a testament to the product's success in the Indian market”, he said.

The Virtus is noted for its performance and safety features, including six airbags, over 40 safety features, 5-star GNCAP safety ratings, 1.0 l TSI and 1.5 l TSI Evo engine options. Volkswagen recently introduced new variants of the Virtus in the form of Virtus GT Line and Virtus GT Plus Sport.

The Virtus GT Plus holds a national record for a 24-Hour Endurance Drive, covering a maximum distance of 4,654.48 km in 24 hours. This feat has been highlighted as a demonstration of the vehicle's durability and performance capabilities.

Despite facing some challenges, the Virtus has maintained its sales momentum. Volkswagen attributes this success to the vehicle's build quality, safety features, and overall performance.

As the automotive market continues to evolve, Volkswagen's performance in the premium sedan segment with the Virtus model will be a point of interest for industry observers and consumers alike.
