Volkswagen India has commenced local assembly of its Tayron R-Line SUV at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra, marking another expansion in the company's Indian operations.

The production milestone comes less than a year after the vehicle's global launch, with Volkswagen planning to introduce the model to Indian customers within the first quarter of 2026.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, described the development as "a strategic step forward" for the company's SUV portfolio. He emphasized the company's focus on customer needs and its commitment to meeting evolving market expectations in India.

Nitin Kohli, Brand Director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, highlighted the company's strategy to increase accessibility to German-engineered vehicles in the Indian market. The Tayron R-Line represents Volkswagen India's most premium SUV offering, featuring seven-seater capacity, R-Line design elements, and practical everyday functionality.

The local assembly initiative aligns with Volkswagen's broader approach to the Indian automotive market, where the company currently offers models including the Taigun, Virtus, Tiguan R-Line, and Golf GTI.

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility has now added the Tayron R-Line to its production lineup as Volkswagen positions itself for growth in India's premium SUV segment.
