VinFast Elevates Tapan Ghosh to Lead India, Indonesia Operations
In his new role, Ghosh will lead both India and Indonesia markets.
Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has elevated the role of its India CEO Tapan Ghosh to lead operations in Indonesia as well, expanding his responsibilities as the company steps up its presence in two key Asian markets outside Vietnam.
Ghosh becomes the first Indian executive to take charge of multiple Asian markets for the Vietnamese automaker. He is now the CEO for VinFast Operations. Vietnam, the company's home market, will remain outside his mandate.
The elevation follows Ghosh's role in establishing VinFast's India operations, where he has overseen the setting up of local manufacturing, expansion of the dealer network and the company's product plans. Indonesia, where VinFast is developing a CKD assembly operation, will now come under his responsibility as well.
VinFast has expanded rapidly since entering the Indian passenger vehicle market. The company has sold around 15,000 vehicles and broken into the top five electric passenger vehicle brands in the country.
He joined VinFast in 2025 from Hyundai Motor India. Under Ghosh, VinFast has expanded its network to around 60 outlets and is working towards 75, with smaller towns and cities forming an important part of the expansion.
The company is also building its presence across private and fleet customers. For the B2B market, VinFast has launched Limo Green to tap demand from fleet and mobility operators.
Ghosh has also played a key role in defining VinFast's product roadmap for India. The company intends to widen its range from the compact VF 3 at the entry level to larger and more premium SUVs at the top of the portfolio. The plan would take VinFast beyond its initial India line-up and give it a presence across more segments and price points in the electric passenger vehicle market.
The two countries give the Vietnamese automaker production bases in South and Southeast Asia apart from Vietnam as it expands beyond its home market.
In India, the immediate priorities include taking the retail network towards 75 outlets, expanding deeper into smaller cities, building the fleet business and rolling out the next set of products.
