VECV Expands Electric Vehicle Portfolio on World EV Day, Reports 42% Renewable Energy Use

The joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with products including the Eicher Pro X Small Truck, the Eicher 2055 EV, and the Eicher Skyline Pro Electric bus. The Skyline Pro Electric buses are currently deployed across multiple cities for school, staff, and airport transportation services.

VECV reports that 42% of its total energy requirements are currently met through renewable sources, supported by 75 MW of captive solar capacity. The company has set a target to increase renewable energy usage to 70% by fiscal year 2027.

The company's Bhopal manufacturing facility incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI-driven energy monitoring systems and an all-women assembly line. The plant features environmental design elements and a 52-million-liter rainwater harvesting system capable of supporting operations for up to four months. VECV aims to achieve water-positive status by 2030.

To support electric vehicle adoption, VECV has established partnerships with charging point operators, providing Eicher customers access to charging infrastructure across India. The company describes its approach as ecosystem-focused, encompassing vehicle manufacturing, charging infrastructure, and connected services.

Beyond electric vehicles, VECV continues development work with alternative fuels including compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2ICE), and hydrogen fuel cells. The company was among the first to introduce BS-VI compliant vehicles in 2019.

VECV operates as a multi-brand, multi-division company covering Eicher-branded trucks and buses, Volvo buses, Volvo truck distribution in India, engine manufacturing for Volvo Group exports, non-automotive engines, and component manufacturing.

The company positions its electric mobility strategy as supporting India's net-zero emission targets through product innovation, sustainable manufacturing, renewable energy integration, and industry partnerships. VECV has been operational since August 2008 and focuses on commercial transportation modernization in India and developing markets.

The World EV Day announcement comes as India continues to expand electric vehicle adoption across commercial and passenger segments, with government policies supporting the transition to clean mobility solutions.
