Valeo Expands Manufacturing Capabilities in Pune to Boost EV Offerings

Automotive technology supplier Valeo has strengthened its footprint in India with the inauguration of new state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly lines at its Pune facility, underscoring its commitment to advancing electrification in the Indian automotive market.

The expanded facility will focus on producing the innovative 3-in-1 Combo unit—an integrated solution combining On-Board Chargers, DC-DC Converters, and Power Distribution Units for electric vehicles. This technological advancement aims to provide more competitive solutions for Indian automakers while significantly increasing domestic value addition.

Xavier Dupont, Valeo Power Division CEO and Group Executive Vice President, who presided over the inauguration ceremony alongside Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director of Valeo India, emphasized the company's dedication to supporting India's transition to electric mobility.

"At Valeo, we are committed to supporting xEV growth in India. We offer our clients the latest technologies for safer and more sustainable mobility, and by investing in new production capabilities, we are proud to contribute to Make In India," said Dupont. "My congratulations and best wishes to the Valeo Power teams for their dedication to drive electrified mobility forward."

Jayakumar G highlighted the collaborative effort behind this achievement: "This achievement reflects the strong collaboration between Valeo's global and India teams in establishing these advanced manufacturing lines. I am pleased that our teams are trained in these new technologies and prepared for the production ramp-up. We sincerely thank our customers for their steadfast support. As India accelerates its xEV transformation, Valeo remains committed to delivering innovative solutions for a sustainable future."

Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities

The expanded Pune site integrates cutting-edge automation, smart manufacturing, and sustainable production practices. By localizing key power electronic components, Valeo aims to reduce import dependency, optimize supply chains, and deliver cost-competitive solutions for OEMs focused on accelerating electric vehicle adoption in India. This initiative aligns with the Make in India policy and supports the long-term development of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

Valeo's 3-in-1 Combo unit represents a significant technological advancement, combining three essential components into a single, integrated solution:

1. On-Board Charger (OBC) – Converts AC power from the grid to charge the high-voltage battery (ranging from 7kW to 22kW)
2. DC-DC Converter – Converts high-voltage power to 12V for auxiliary systems and low-voltage battery charging
3. Power Distribution Unit (PDU) – Efficiently distributes power to critical electric vehicle components

The modular design enhances efficiency by optimizing component sharing between various systems, reducing space requirements, weight, and costs while improving overall performance. The compact system will be utilized in multiple electric vehicle models produced in India.

Valeo has maintained a presence in India since 1997, operating eight production sites and a global R&D Center across Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Sanand, and Gurgaon. The company employs over 7,000 people in India, with nearly half being engineers focused on driving innovation in automotive technology.
