The new Mercedes C-Class EQ that will debut next year will serve as an electric alternative to the brand’s popular C-Class sedan. This new model from Mercedes-Benz will sit alongside the heavily updated combustion-powered C-Class, giving customers a choice between ICE and EV options in the segment. Mercedes-Benz released a teaser image of the upcoming C-Class EQ at the Munich Motor show.
The C-Class EQ has been conceived as a direct rival to BMW’s upcoming electric 3 Series, the new i3, which is also due around the same time with similar specifications. Both models will go head-to-head as the German premium brands compete for dominance in the segment.
C-Class EQ to get GLC EQ like “Iconic Grille”
Like the GLC EQ, the new C-Class EQ will adopt Mercedes’ latest ‘Iconic Grille’ styling, a signature design cue intended to distinguish EVs from their ICE siblings. Each EQ model will receive a bespoke interpretation of the grille, with the C-Class EQ’s version previewed at the recent Munich motor show.
Interior bits to be shared with GLC EQ
Inside, the C-Class EQ will mirror the GLC EQ’s luxury-focused layout. This includes the latest version of Mercedes’ optional Hyperscreen, a vast digital display stretching across the dashboard.
Platform and tech
Built on the new MB.EA platform, the C-Class EQ marks the second model to use this advanced architecture, following the GLC EQ. The 800V electrical system underpinning the car will also serve as the basis for the larger E-Class EQ due in 2027. The new C-Class EQ is set to grow in size compared with today’s MRA2-based C-Class, stretching beyond its 4751mm length and 1820mm width. A longer wheelbase and wider tracks will not only improve road presence but also create significantly more cabin space – an area where earlier Mercedes EQ sedans were often criticized.
Multiple Powertrain options on offer
Under the hood, the electric powertrain options for the new Mercedes C-Class EQ will be shared with the GLC EQ, this means there will be multiple powretrain configurations available. These will span from a 335hp, single-motor, RWD entry model to a dual-motor AWD 4Matic option, producing up to 482hp. Power comes from a 94.5kWh NMC battery for all variants.
More range than GLC EQ
Thanks to its more aerodynamic shape, the C-Class EQ will boast a longer range than the GLC EQ. While the SUV claims up to 700km, the sleeker sedan promises up to 800km on a single charge. Charging speeds will reach up to 400kW, significantly cutting down recharging times.
