Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the strategic partnership between India and Japan is gaining momentum, with the state seeking to increase Japanese investment and industrial cooperation.
Speaking at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in New Delhi on August 19, Khanna said Japan’s engagement with Uttar Pradesh extends beyond investment to longer-term industrial and institutional cooperation. A Japanese delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, attended the event.
The minister said Uttar Pradesh’s investment proposition includes improved connectivity, a large consumer market, skilled human resources, infrastructure development and investment-related policies. He also cited Nivesh Mitra, the state’s single-window investment facilitation platform, as an initiative aimed at simplifying business processes.
Japan-Uttar Pradesh cooperation in automobiles and advanced manufacturing
Automobiles and advanced manufacturing were identified among the sectors where Uttar Pradesh sees scope for greater cooperation with Japanese industry. Other areas highlighted at the meet included green hydrogen, technology, innovation and healthcare.
Khanna said the state’s industrial ecosystem could provide opportunities for Japanese companies to participate through technology partnerships, innovation and industrial collaboration in addition to capital investment.
The minister also linked the increased engagement to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent visit to Japan, which he said had provided further momentum to industrial and institutional ties between the two sides.
Green hydrogen and technology emerge as cooperation areas
Green hydrogen and advanced technologies were highlighted as potential areas of cooperation between Japanese companies and Uttar Pradesh. The state is seeking to combine Japanese technological capabilities with its expanding industrial base.
