Uno Minda Plans ₹1,750 Crore Capex as FY27 Expected to Be Execution-Heavy

Uno Minda is entering what management described as a “defining year for execution”, as the automotive component major prepares to operationalise multiple new businesses and manufacturing programmes linked to electrification, premiumisation and higher vehicle electronics content.

Speaking during the company’s Q4 FY26 earnings call, Sunil Bohra, Group CFO, said seven of Uno Minda’s 11 ongoing projects are expected to either commence production or undergo ramp-up during FY27. The company also expects commercial operations to begin in two new segments — EV powertrain and sunroofs — both of which are emerging as significant future growth areas.

“FY27 is expected to be a defining year for execution, with seven out of our 11 ongoing projects either commencing production or undergoing ramp-up,” Bohra said during the call, while outlining the company’s manufacturing and investment roadmap.

To support this transition, Uno Minda has planned a capital expenditure of around ₹1,750 crore for FY27, covering sustaining capex, growth-related expansion and land acquisition. The investments come at a time when OEMs are increasingly pushing localisation, premium features and higher electronics integration across vehicles.

The company’s strategic evolution has become more visible over the last three financial years. FY24 was largely driven by scale expansion and industry recovery, supported by strong passenger vehicle and two-wheeler production growth. FY25 saw deeper diversification into EV-linked technologies, premiumisation and electronics-focused businesses.

FY26, meanwhile, became a year of future portfolio building and order consolidation. Uno Minda secured sizeable business wins across lighting, seating, infotainment and sunroofs, while also restructuring its reporting framework to create a separate “green mobility” vertical covering EV systems, EV-specific controllers and alternate-fuel technologies.

Now, the focus shifts from announcements and investments to execution and scale-up.

A major part of this transition is centred around EV powertrain systems. Uno Minda recently announced another greenfield facility in Maharashtra for electric powertrain products under Uno Minda Auto Innovations. The facility will manufacture and assemble electric drive units and e-axle transmission systems for passenger vehicles.

Alongside EV systems, the company is scaling its sunroof business aggressively. Management said the cumulative sunroof order book potential has crossed ₹3,500 crore, with manufacturing operations expected to commence by the end of FY27.

Its infotainment business is also emerging as a significant growth driver. Uno Minda said it has developed an Android-based in-vehicle infotainment platform in-house and secured a programme with an estimated peak annual revenue potential of around ₹600 crore. Production for the programme is expected to begin in FY29.

Even as the company enters a high-investment and plant ramp-up cycle, management maintained EBITDA margin guidance at around 11%, plus or minus 50 basis points, despite acknowledging pressure from commodity inflation, labour cost increases and start-up costs associated with newly commissioned facilities.
