Ultraviolette BIGGA Factory To Scale Production To 2.5 Lakh
The new Hosur facility will manufacture the Tesseract electric scooter and is designed to eventually scale to 500,000 vehicles annually.
Ultraviolette has announced plans to establish its BIGGA (Big Global Ambition) Factory at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The new manufacturing facility will produce the company's Tesseract electric scooter and support production of future models.
The facility will ramp up to an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles in phases, with infrastructure designed to scale this to 500,000 units annually as demand increases. The expansion will operate alongside Ultraviolette's existing manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The company expects the project to create approximately 2,000 jobs in its initial phase, with employment expected to increase over the next five years as operations are scaled.
Ultraviolette BIGGA Factory To Manufacture Tesseract
The BIGGA Factory will manufacture the Tesseract electric scooter and provide production capacity for Ultraviolette's future portfolio. The company says this portfolio will span Sports, Crossover, Cruiser and Street motorcycle segments, in addition to scooters.
Ultraviolette co-founder and CEO Narayan Subramaniam said the new facility is intended to provide the manufacturing capacity required to scale the Tesseract and future products, while the Bengaluru plant will continue its existing operations.
Industry 4.0 Systems Planned At Hosur Plant
The BIGGA Factory is being developed around Industry 4.0 manufacturing principles, with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) planned for real-time production track-and-trace. The facility will also use digital lean manufacturing and digital quality systems.
Automation planned for key processes includes collaborative robots for sorting, welding and assembly, automated assembly fool-proofing and vision-based inspection systems. These systems are intended to support production precision, consistency and efficiency.
A specialised test track will also be used to evaluate vehicles before dispatch. The facility has been designed to allow production of the Tesseract to be progressively increased while providing manufacturing infrastructure for future products.
BIGGA Factory To Operate Alongside Bengaluru Facility
The Tamil Nadu government will facilitate land allotment for the facility at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Shoolagiri. Ultraviolette cited the site's proximity to Bengaluru, its R&D operations and its existing supplier network as factors behind the location.
CTO and co-founder Niraj Rajmohan said the Hosur location provides access to an established automotive ecosystem and supply chain, while the new facility's production capabilities are intended to support the company's expansion into Indian and international markets.
