Ultratech Scales Up Heavy-duty Electric Truck Fleet to 600+

UltraTech Cement plans to expand the electrification of its logistics operations to more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026.

The company said the fleet will be used to transport clinker and other key materials across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.

UltraTech expects the fleet to transport around 5 million tonnes of materials annually once fully operational. According to the company, the deployment has the potential to reduce net annual CO₂ emissions by more than 117,000 tonnes and displace diesel consumption equivalent to around 39 million litres a year.

UltraTech signs contracts with EV truck manufacturers

UltraTech said it has signed service contracts with EV prime mover manufacturers Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and third-party logistics providers, for the deployment of the electric trucks.

K C Jhanwar, managing director of UltraTech Cement, said the expansion of electric vehicles in logistics forms part of the company's efforts to reduce emissions across its supply chain and supports its broader net-zero objectives.

UltraTech's green logistics fleet

The company currently operates more than 850 CNG and electric trucks as part of its green logistics operations. UltraTech introduced CNG trucks in its logistics operations in 2021 and began deploying electric trucks in 2024, according to the company.

UltraTech's logistics electrification strategy covers transportation across its supply chain, including the movement of materials from mines to plants and inter-plant transport of clinker and other materials. The company has a grey cement capacity of more than 200 million tonnes per annum in India.
