Uber, the ride hailing major which has committed over $800 million investment to assist its drivers migrate towards zero-emission vehicles by 2040, believes the future of mobility will be a combination of all the forms of transportation including the public transit. 

The company is currently piloting buses on its platform and will soon be launching it in several cities including in Hyderabad says Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia. 

Speaking at the first edition of Mobility Next Hyderabad Summit – a part of the Hyderabad e-Mobility week, Singh said, "Enabling shared mobility across all forms of vehicles including two, three and four wheelers. In some cities, Uber is piloting bus based services including in Hyderabad very soon".

"Also, one will get option on public transit because we do believe that the future is going to be combination of all the form factors" he added emphasizing there to be need for India specific solutions which includes city designing, micro mobility and even walking and more importantly public transit. 

Singh, an IIT Kharagpur and IIM-A alum, joined Uber in August 2015 from McKinsey and Co., where he was an Associate Partner, said that the zero emission platforms irrespective of its fuel form it creates economic access to hundreds and thousands of people who are parting in the mobility space without having to add proportionate number of vehicles. 

Uber has garnered 200,000 individual rides in Telangana, since its inception. The ask is to push it to one million in the next 5 years, Uber India Head said during his address.

After experiencing over 47 percent loss during the pandemic-plagued fiscal year, Uber India's ride hailing business managed to grow in size in FY22. 

According to Entrackr, its revenue from the ride-hailing vertical increased by 29.5 percent last fiscal year, reaching Rs 388 crore. Uber India Systems, which owns and operates the local firm, increased revenue by 7.3 percent to Rs 397 crore in the fiscal year ending March 2022, up from Rs 370 crore in FY21.
