TVS Motor Company (TVSM) announced the integration of ION Mobility’s assets, intellectual property, and workforce into its operations, strengthening its electric vehicle (EV) footprint in Southeast Asia. The region, known for its growing demand for motorbikes, presents significant opportunities for EV expansion.

TVSM has been a strategic investor in ION Mobility, a full-stack EV company specializing in industrial and product design, mechanical and electrical engineering, embedded and power electronics, firmware, software, and supply chain solutions. This integration aligns with TVSM’s expertise in electric mobility and is expected to accelerate market penetration.

Sharad Mohan Mishra, President of Group Strategy at TVS Motor Company, stated that TVSM recognized ION Mobility’s potential early on, citing its focus on smart and sustainable mobility solutions for ASEAN markets. He noted that the acquisition would bring ION Mobility’s design and engineering capabilities into TVSM’s operations, complementing its research and development, quality systems, and manufacturing scale.

TVS Motor has already established a strong presence in the EV sector, with nearly 600,000 customers for its TVS iQube electric scooter. The company holds more than 650 patents related to EV technology and has developed in-house expertise in battery systems, battery management, vehicle control units, and connected platforms.

As part of this development, TVS Motor (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of TVSM, has acquired select assets from ION Mobility while divesting its stake in the company. James Chan, Founder and CEO of ION Mobility, has joined TVS Motor as Senior Vice President and will oversee TVSM’s ASEAN business. He will also lead the development and launch of the M1-S electric mobility platform, which has already attracted interest in ASEAN markets.

TVS Motor continues to expand its global presence, leveraging innovation and sustainability in mobility solutions. The integration with ION Mobility is expected to enhance its capabilities in Southeast Asia’s competitive EV market.
