TVS Motor Company is working on an all-new 160cc maxi-scooter platform that would mark the brand's entry into the fast-growing premium scooter segment. The scooter is expected to be powered by a new liquid-cooled engine, a departure from the air-cooled units found in the company's existing Ntorq range.
The development comes as India's scooter market sees increasing demand for premium, differentiated products. Within the next year, the segment is expected to grow more crowded, with the Honda ADV160 and Yamaha NMax 155 set to compete alongside existing models such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160, putting pressure on manufacturers to offer compelling alternatives.
While the recently launched TVS Ntorq 150 retained the same basic architecture as its 125cc predecessor, this new 160cc platform is understood to be a clean-sheet design. The scooter is expected to come with 14-inch wheels and performance in the 14–15hp range, potentially edging slightly higher. TVS has not confirmed any details officially.
The direction the product takes, whether sporty like the Aerox 155, adventure-oriented like the Honda ADV160 and Hero Xoom 160, or a more conventional maxi-scooter in the mould of the NMax 155, remains unclear at this stage. What is expected is a strong focus on connected technology, with TVS likely drawing on the suite of features developed for its premium electric scooter, the TVS X.
The scooter is not expected to be an India-only product. TVS reportedly plans to export it to several overseas markets, including Europe, where demand for small-displacement maxi-scooters has been steady. A commercial launch is anticipated by the end of 2027, pending finalisation of the platform.
