Tresa Motors appoints Edmund Spitz as Chief Design Officer

Tresa Motors has announced the appointment of Edmund Spitz as Chief Design Officer. Spitz will report directly to Rohan Shravan, Founder CEO and CTO. Spitz brings over a decade of global transportation design experience from companies such as BharatBenz, Daimler Trucks North America, and SAIC Innovation Centre.

In this role at Tresa Motors, Spitz will lead innovation-focused design teams, as he joins Tresa on its journey to position India as a leader in global EV transportation solutions. “My vision for Tresa Motors is to disrupt the commercial vehicle market with a focus on agility. We will evaluate the entire chain of how a commercial vehicle is put together and incorporate our additional capabilities in robotics, AI, and 3D imaging, in order to build a more efficient truck. Lastly, we aim to enhance the user experience of the operators of commercial vehicles, an under-addressed market today, through thoughtful design and engineering solutions. My design philosophy is Functional Minimalism, which lends itself well to the commercial vehicle space because trucks are ‘function first’ vehicles,” said Edmund Spitz, Chief Design Officer, Tresa Motors.

Spitz built his global automotive design experience through his tenure at Daimler Truck, where he rotated through key design roles at BharatBenz in Chennai, India, FUSO in Yokohama, Japan, and Freightliner Trucks in Portland, Oregon. Notably, he was instrumental in setting up the BharatBenz design studio in Chennai in 2012 as the Creative Head of Studio, where he designed a range of light to heavy-duty commercial vehicles during his time there.

Spitz was most recently Head of Transportation Design at Strate School of Design’s Bangalore campus. Prior to that, he led a team of designers at the SAIC Innovation Centre in San Jose, California, focused on developing Driverless Mobility solutions and experiences for Level 5 autonomy.

Spitz holds a Masters in Transportation Design Management from the Institut Superieur de Design, France.

Rohan Shravan, Founder CEO and CTO, Tresa Motors said, “Edmund brings a wealth of commercial vehicle design experience in both India and abroad, leading teams that designed market-changing vehicles that have been especially impactful in India.”
