Toyota Kirloskar September Sales Fall 14% as Exports Plunge 28%

Domestic sales accounted for 88.7% of September volume, against 86.5% in August, because exports contracted faster than domestic dispatches.

Toyota Kirloskar September Sales Fall 14% as Exports Plunge 28%

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported total sales of 0.28 lakh units for September 2026, comprising 0.25 lakh domestic units and 0.03 lakh exports. That was a sequential decline of 0.05 lakh units (14.1%) from the 0.33 lakh units reported for August 2026.

The year‑to‑date position remains positive: cumulative January–September 2026 sales reached 2.95 lakh units, up 8% year on year from 2.73 lakh units in the corresponding 2025 period.

Domestic sales fell to 0.25 lakh units from 0.28 lakh units, a decline of 11.9%. Exports dropped to 0.03 lakh units from 0.04 lakh units, down 28.0%. Total volume contracted to 0.28 lakh units from 0.33 lakh units, down 14.1%.

Domestic sales accounted for 88.7% of September volume, against 86.5% in August, because exports contracted faster than domestic dispatches.

Domestic sales rose to 2.70 lakh units from 2.47 lakh units, up 9% YoY. Exports slipped to 0.25 lakh units from 0.26 lakh units, down 2%. Total sales increased to 2.95 lakh units from 2.73 lakh units, up 8%. Domestic volume added 0.23 lakh units year on year and drove the entire year‑to‑date gain, while exports declined slightly.

TKM’s cumulative YoY growth moderated by two percentage points between the August and September reporting points. Total growth eased to 8% in Jan–Sep from 10% in Jan–Aug. Domestic growth slowed to 9% from 11%, while exports turned negative at –2% from +2%.

Management commentary Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales‑Service‑Used Car Business, said September reflected sustained demand across segments, supported by the company’s emphasis on quality, durability and reliability. He added that TKM would focus on dealer engagement heading into the festive season.

TKM’s installed capacity is 3.42 lakh units across two plants at Bidadi, Karnataka. Plant 1 (capacity 1.32 lakh units) produces the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Legender. Plant 2 (capacity 2.10 lakh units) produces the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Hilux.

Other locally produced models include the Glanza, Rumion, Urban Cruiser Taisor and Urban Cruiser Ebella. Premium imports include the Vellfire and LC 300. TKM is 89% owned by Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) and 11% by Vikramgeet Investments and Holdings Private Limited (India), and employs 6,662 people.
