Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram and Zote Toyota, has inaugurated its 67th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Aizawl. The program also includes the introduction of the STAR Scholarship initiative, aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged students pursuing technical education.
The initiative focuses on skill development and employability enhancement, particularly for students from rural areas. T-TEP provides training in the General Technician Category for final-year ITI and Diploma students specializing in Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV) and Diesel Mechanic Trade. The program combines classroom learning with on-the-job training at Toyota dealerships, equipping students with industry-relevant skills. Zote Toyota, a dealership partner, is actively involved in the program’s implementation and contributes to the STAR Scholarship initiative.
The STAR Scholarship program offers financial assistance of up to ₹51,000 per year to eligible students, covering hostel fees, educational expenses, and family support. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers for students pursuing technical education, enabling them to focus on skill development.
The event was attended by Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Labour, Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Government of Mizoram.
TKM, along with its dealer partner, has invested over ₹1.5 million to enhance infrastructure at the Aizawl ITI. This includes the provision of engines, transmissions, practice kits, and e-learning content, as well as training for faculty through a Train-the-Trainer approach. The collaboration is part of TKM’s broader strategy to support skill development under the “Skill India” and “Make in India” missions.
Since its inception in 2006, T-TEP has trained over 13,000 students, with more than 70% securing employment in the automotive sector. TKM plans to expand the program to 10 additional states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, aiming to strengthen the rural workforce and meet the growing demands of the automotive industry.
