Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) offered an array of educational and vocational initiatives aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged youth in Karnataka, and across India on National Education Day. TKM’s programmes aim to equip young people with essential skills for employment, fostering self-reliance and supporting India’s industrial progress.
A cornerstone of TKM’s skill development mission is the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), founded in 2007. For over 15 years, TTTI has provided free, high-quality technical education to youth from underprivileged backgrounds, specialising in automobile manufacturing.
In alignment with the ‘Skill India’ initiative, TKM also launched the Toyota Kaushalya Programme, a two-year course under the “Learn and Earn” model. This initiative complements TTTI’s standard offerings by allowing students to earn while they learn, blending classroom instruction with on-the-job training (OJT) at Toyota’s facilities.
Another pillar of TKM’s approach is the Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP), a collaboration with industrial training institutes across India. Through T-TEP, TKM has set up 60 centres that have trained over 13,000 students nationwide. The programme offers a robust technical curriculum combined with hands-on skills development at Toyota dealerships, where students gain experience with advanced automotive technologies and industry standards.
TKM’s dedication to skill enhancement also includes participation in the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), which provides selected employees with opportunities to gain international experience through on-the-job training in Japan for periods ranging from six months to five years. This exchange programme builds technical competencies and fosters stronger India-Japan cooperation, allowing knowledge to flow between the two countries.

In partnership with the Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC) as an Industrial Training Provider (ITP), TKM has expanded its reach in Karnataka. Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2021, TKM has helped establish 16 GTTC institutes in Karnataka, with plans to increase to 36 centres by 2026. These institutes offer training in automobile welding and assembly, equipping students with valuable skills within the automotive industry.
