Toyota Kirloskar Motor concluded Environment Month 2025 on Thursday with the launch of green logistics operations and comprehensive sustainability initiatives that engaged over 3,100 participants across its value chain. The automotive manufacturer flagged off 17 electric trucks from its logistics partner to operate across five critical supply routes, marking a significant step toward carbon neutrality under the company's global Environmental Challenge 2050 framework.
The month-long initiative, themed "Sustainable Resource Management Drive," incorporated zero-base thinking principles and plastic elimination efforts throughout the organization. The program united employees, suppliers, dealers, and community members in collective environmental action spanning workplace operations and broader community engagement.
The electric truck deployment represents TKM's advancement under Challenge 2 of Toyota's global environmental framework, specifically targeting lifecycle zero carbon dioxide emissions through green supply chain operations, eco-dealership practices, and sustainable logistics. This initiative builds upon the company's existing green logistics strategies, including the Mixed Logistics Model implemented with group companies to optimize vehicle delivery routes and improve operational efficiency.
TKM has previously introduced the Return Logistics Reduction approach to minimize empty return trips and reduce carbon emissions, alongside the integration of compressed natural gas trucks into its logistics fleet. The electric truck initiative extends these efforts by eliminating tailpipe emissions and improving energy efficiency across transportation operations.
The company hosted a green exhibition at its Bidadi plant through its Sustainovation Hub platform, featuring eco-friendly lifestyle products manufactured from natural ingredients, biodegradable materials, and sustainable textiles. The exhibition showcased personal care items, home cleaning products, food and grocery options, and reusable packaging solutions designed to promote chemical-free, environmentally conscious living.
A student-led eco exhibition complemented the corporate display, presenting over 30 sustainability-focused models addressing waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable living practices. Students from the Toyota Technical Training Institute developed all models using zero-cost materials and commonly available waste items under the guidance of TKM expert trainers and the corporate environment team.
The comprehensive environmental program included expert sessions, awareness campaigns, tree plantation drives, and eco-idea contests designed to strengthen environmental consciousness across TKM's stakeholder ecosystem. These activities supported the company's broader commitment to embedding sustainable practices throughout its manufacturing operations and entire value chain.
TKM's environmental initiatives align with Toyota's global Environmental Challenge 2050, which encompasses six distinct challenges announced in 2015. Challenges one through three focus on clean technology products and green manufacturing operations to minimize carbon emissions across the complete vehicle lifecycle, including material and parts production, vehicle assembly, logistics operations, and energy consumption in manufacturing processes.
Challenges four through six target water usage minimization, recycling-based society promotion, and the development of future societies operating in harmony with nature. The company's approach extends beyond product development to encompass comprehensive sustainability stewardship across all operational areas.

The automotive manufacturer operates two production facilities in Bidadi with a combined installed capacity of 342,000 units annually. The first plant, established in October 1997 with production beginning in December 1999, manufactures the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender models with an installed capacity of 132,000 units. The second plant, which commenced production in December 2010, produces the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux models with a capacity of 210,000 units.
