ThunderPlus and Evey Trans to Build EV Charging Hub Near Vijayawada

ThunderPlus, an EV charging network operator, and Evey Trans Private Limited, an electric bus fleet company, have announced a partnership to establish a charging hub near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The collaboration marks one of the larger EV infrastructure investments announced in the state in recent months.

The facility will be built on one acre of land at Kunchanapalli, Tadepalli, with a total installed capacity of 1.6 MW. It will feature seven DC fast chargers alongside battery swapping infrastructure and fast charging stations for two-wheelers. The hub is designed to accommodate more than 50 electric buses and over 100 electric cars simultaneously, positioning it as one of the higher-capacity charging facilities in Andhra Pradesh.

Beyond charging equipment, the site is being developed as an integrated EV operations base. It will include dedicated bus servicing and repair bays, spare parts storage, driver rest and boarding facilities, a driver training area, and vehicle washing and maintenance zones. These additions are aimed at reducing downtime for commercial fleet operators and improving turnaround efficiency at the site.

The Kunchanapalli location places the hub along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada corridor, one of South India's busiest intercity routes, carrying a mix of passenger buses, freight vehicles, and private traffic. By situating the facility at this junction, the partners say it will serve electric buses running between Vijayawada and multiple parts of the country, while also catering to logistics operators and individual EV users making long-distance journeys.

Rajeev YSR, ED and CEO of ThunderPlus, said the company views the partnership as consistent with its broader strategy of developing charging infrastructure through collaborations rather than standalone deployments. "Together, we are co-developing high-capacity ultra-fast charging hubs that add immense value to India's EV infrastructure landscape," he said.

Sandeep Raizada, CEO of Evey Trans, indicated the Vijayawada hub is intended to be the first of several such facilities. "We are confident of developing several such high-capacity ultra-fast charging hubs across strategic cities and transport corridors, enabling electric buses, trucks, passenger vehicles, and two-wheelers to fully leverage India's evolving EV infrastructure," he said.

Evey Trans currently operates approximately 3,300 electric buses across more than 50 cities, spanning seven states and two union territories, and covers over 800,000 kilometres daily. The scale of its fleet makes access to reliable, high-capacity charging infrastructure a significant operational consideration, particularly as routes extend across state borders and intercity distances.

ThunderPlus has been expanding its charging network across India, focusing on high-throughput locations such as highways, freight corridors, and urban transit points. Partnerships with fleet operators represent a growing segment of its deployment model, as commercial vehicle operators require predictable charging access at scale rather than ad hoc public infrastructure.

India's EV sector has seen a marked increase in infrastructure investment over the past two years, driven by a combination of government policy incentives, falling battery costs, and growing adoption among state transport undertakings and private fleet operators. However, long-distance and intercity EV travel has remained constrained by the limited availability of fast-charging facilities outside major urban centres. Projects along high-traffic corridors such as Hyderabad–Vijayawada are seen by industry observers as important to making intercity electric mobility viable for both commercial and private operators. The hub at Kunchanapalli, once operational, is expected to contribute to that broader infrastructure gap along one of Andhra Pradesh's primary transport arteries.
