Three-wheeler retail increased 22.25% year on year to 1,32,570 units in September 2026, according to FADA. Retail was also up 8.41% month on month from 1,22,281 units in August.
September marked the segment’s best-ever September. Three-wheelers accounted for 5.2% of total vehicle retail of 25,36,920 units during the month. FADA’s September data was compiled from 1,468 of 1,469 RTOs, with three-wheeler registration data unavailable for Telangana.
The rural market recorded stronger year-on-year growth than urban markets, at 40.09% compared with 4.71%. Month on month, urban retail rose 10.39%, while rural retail increased 6.96%.
Electric Three-Wheelers Account For 64.90%
Electric three-wheelers continued to account for the majority of segment retail, with EV penetration at 64.90% in September. This was lower than 65.30% in August but higher than 56.65% in September 2025. CNG/LPG vehicles accounted for 21.91%, diesel for 12.92% and petrol/ethanol for 0.26%.
Within the segment, passenger three-wheelers accounted for 80,023 units, up 37.64% year on year and 10.14% month on month. Three-wheelers for goods recorded 16,456 units, up 63.48% year on year and 12.60% month on month.
Bajaj Auto recorded 46,680 three-wheeler retail units and a 35.21% market share. Mahindra & Mahindra and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recorded 15,242 and 15,221 units respectively, with market shares of 11.50% and 11.48%. Piaggio Vehicles held 6.93% with 9,185 units.
Three-Wheeler Retail Up 14.98% In FY27
Three-wheeler retail for April-September FY2027 stood at 7,48,009 units, compared with 6,50,566 units during the corresponding period of FY2026, representing 14.98% growth.
FADA expects festive conversion to support retail in October, with the association citing the deferred festive demand from September and the Navratri-Dussehra period as key factors for the month.
