Hyundai’s upcoming R&D center in Telangana signals expanded innovation and local manufacturing focus.

The Industrial Promotion Sub-Committee of the Telangana government has approved South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company’s plans to establish an R&D center - Hyundai Global Innovation Research and Development Centre – in the state with a proposed investment of Rs 8,528 crore, according to the New Indian Express.
The new R&D center is reportedly planned in the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Zaheerabad (an industrial city and Municipal Council in Sangareddy district, Telangana), across 675 acres of land, featuring core facilities, including an automotive test track, pilot line and prototyping systems. The facility is expected to create 4,276 jobs.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), through Hyundai Motor India Engineering Pvt Ltd, already has an R&D center in Hyderabad, Telangana, spread across 15 acres of company-owned land. The new R&D center is the initiative of the parent company Hyundai Motor Co, and could be seen as an expansion of HMIL’s existing center in the state.
HMIL had earlier said that its R&D center in Hyderabad works closely with the parent company’s centralized R&D hub in Namyang, South Korea, and the center is being expanded to become the hub for global compact passenger vehicle R&D for Hyundai Motor Company.
India is currently the third biggest market for Hyundai Motor Co after North America and South Korea. The company is positioning India as its largest global export base after South Korea with a quarter of the 1-million-unit capacity addition planned by the global company will come from India.
HMIL is gearing up to introduce 26 new models by the end of this decade. This ambitious rollout includes 20 ICE vehicles and six EVs—a mix of all-new models, full model changes, and product enhancements.
