The Telangana government on Sunday stated that it will offer 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees for EVs that have been purchased and registered in the state for two years, up to December 31, 2026, PTI noted.
The Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that the new EV policy would be effective from 18 November- Monday. Telangana joins the likes of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala in offering incentives to boost EV adoption, with this move.
The government has decided to offer 100% exemption from road tax registration fees for e-2ws, four wheelers, commercial passenger vehicles like taxis, private cars, electric three seater auto rickshaws. It also includes electric light goods carriers including three wheeled goods vehicles, electric tractors, and electric buses, as per the Government Order, PTI noted.
With respect to electric buses, the exemption will be applicable for the entire life of the EVs operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation only. Buses owned by any industry for transporting their own employees exclusively, and not for commercial use, purchased and registered in Telangana for an initial period of two years, up to December 31, 2026, is also included, irrespective of the number of vehicles registered, PTI noted.
