TeamLease highlights emerging tech roles with high demand for women in FY25

The technology sector continues to see a gradual increase in the participation of women as organisations emphasise diversity and inclusion. According to projections by TeamLease Digital, the annual growth rate of the women’s workforce in the tech sector is expected to be 5.5% over the next three years. The Women’s Workforce Participation Rate (WPR) in India’s tech industry, which was 10.8% in 2022, is projected to reach 14.9% by 2027. Women currently make up approximately 1.92 million of the total tech workforce in the country.

Companies are actively recruiting women for roles that encourage innovation and offer fresh perspectives. It is expected that the share of women in the technology workforce within Global Capability Centers (GCCs) will increase to 35% by 2027. However, challenges remain in addressing the gender gap and ensuring equal opportunities. For women seeking careers in technology, the fiscal year 2024-25 presents opportunities in emerging and critical roles across the industry.

Data science and analytics roles are becoming increasingly important as organisations prioritise data-driven decision-making. These roles involve analysing large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights that improve business strategies and operational efficiency. Positions such as data scientists, data analysts, and machine learning engineers are among the most sought-after roles for women in tech.

Cybersecurity is another area experiencing growing demand, driven by the rise in cyber threats. Organisations are investing in protecting digital assets and sensitive information. Between September 2023 and September 2024, job postings for cybersecurity roles increased by 14%, highlighting the heightened demand for professionals in this field. Common roles for women in cybersecurity include security analysts, security engineers, and ethical hackers.

Cloud computing has become a key component of digital transformation efforts, with businesses increasingly adopting cloud platforms. The number of cloud professionals in India is projected to grow from 608,000 in 2021 to 1.5 million by 2025, eventually reaching 2 million. This growth is driven by the need for experts who can ensure smooth cloud adoption and optimise cloud solutions. Roles such as cloud architects, cloud engineers, and DevOps engineers are particularly in demand.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) continue to reshape industries such as healthcare and finance. The adoption of AI has grown by 28% year-on-year over the past three years and is expected to increase further by 40% between 2024 and 2026. Professionals specialising in algorithms, deep learning, and programming languages play a crucial role in these areas. Women are increasingly entering roles such as AI research scientists, machine learning engineers, and NLP specialists, contributing to the development of intelligent systems and automation.

User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design roles are also gaining significance, with women making notable contributions to creating intuitive and visually appealing digital interfaces. These roles require both creativity and technical expertise in design tools like Figma, Sketch, and Adobe XD, enabling women to shape the usability and aesthetics of digital products.

As the tech industry continues to evolve, opportunities for women are expanding across a variety of roles, emphasising the importance of promoting inclusivity and supporting career growth in these critical areas.
