Team Piranha Racing Clinches Overall Title at Baja SAE India 2026

Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, Pune wins the top prize as 56 awards are presented across static and dynamic event categories.

Team Piranha Racing from Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, Pune claimed the Overall Winner title at Baja SAE India (BSI) 2026, taking home a prize of ₹1,50,000. KLE Technological University's Team Euros Racing finished as Overall 1st Runner Up, earning ₹1,00,000, while D. Y. Patil College of Engineering and Technology, Kolhapur — represented by DYPCET Vectors — secured the Overall 2nd Runner Up position and a prize of ₹75,000.

A total of 56 awards were presented across multiple categories spanning both static and dynamic events. Baja SAE India is an intercollegiate engineering design competition organised by SAE India, in which student teams design, build, and race a single-seat off-road vehicle. The 2026 edition was held under the aegis of Sri Vishnu Educational Society.

In the static events, Team Ziba Racers from Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women dominated, winning first place in CAE, Manufacturing Excellence, and Overall Static Event, in addition to taking the Best Debutant (New Team) award. DYPCET Vectors won the Sales Presentation category, while Team Piranha Racing won the Cost event. The Engineering Design top prize went to The Ashwa Riders of St Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering and Technology.

Team Euros Racing from KLE Technological University won the Durability event, while Team Redshift Racing India from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering took first place in both Suspension & Traction and Overall Physical Dynamic events. Team Piranha Racing won both the Acceleration and Maneuverability events. The Sled Pull was won by Team Godavari of Sagi Rama Krishnam Raju Engineering College, and Team Euros Racing also claimed the Validation top prize.

The Dronacharya Award, recognising faculty mentorship, was presented to Dr. Muthalagu from B.V. Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur. The Pride of Telangana award went to Mechanizers 52.0 of Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology, carrying a prize of ₹30,000. The Social Media Event Runner Up trophy was awarded to Team Ezhal of Chennai Institute of Technology.

Ten teams received trophies in the Overall rankings, with placements from 4th through 10th position going to Team Redshift Racing India, Mechanizers 52.0, The Ashwa Riders, Team Kaiser Racing of Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Team SJEC Racing of St Joseph Engineering College, Team Mesa of Government Engineering College Thrissur, and Team Manipal Racing of Manipal Institute of Technology, respectively.

The event was sponsored by Speed and Bharat Petroleum as title sponsors, with MathWorks as the Platinum sponsor and ARAI and NATRAX as Diamond Hosts, among several other industry partners including Autoliv, Hero, TVS, Tata Motors, Honda, and Volvo.
