Tata.ev Partners With Hopcharge to Launch On-Demand EV Charging Vans in NCR

The partnership aims to address a key barrier to electric vehicle adoption by providing mobile charging services to residents without access to dedicated parking or home charging infrastructure.

Tata Motors' electric vehicle brand, Tata.ev, has announced a partnership with mobile charging company Hopcharge to deploy on-demand charging vans across the National Capital Region (NCR). The initiative is designed to bring doorstep charging services directly to electric vehicle owners, removing the need for a fixed home or building-level charging setup.

The service works by allowing customers to book a charging van through a dedicated platform, after which the van travels to the customer's location and charges the vehicle on-site. This model is particularly relevant for EV owners living in multi-storey apartments, rented accommodations, or properties where installing a personal charger is either not permitted or not practical.

As part of a promotional offer tied to the partnership, customers who purchase a Tata.ev through an authorised dealership will be eligible for complimentary doorstep charging services. Terms and conditions apply, and interested buyers are encouraged to contact their nearest Tata.ev dealership for details. Additional information is available at tataxhopcharge.com.

Charging infrastructure has been identified as one of the more persistent obstacles to EV adoption in India, particularly in dense urban centres like Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad. While public charging networks have expanded in recent years, gaps remain — especially for residents without access to overnight home charging, which is generally considered the most convenient way to keep an electric vehicle charged.

Mobile charging services have emerged as one approach to bridge this gap. Rather than requiring the driver to travel to a charging station, the charger travels to the driver. The model has been tried in other markets and is now being offered in parts of India, where apartment-heavy housing and limited parking infrastructure make home charging difficult for a portion of EV owners.

Tata.ev is a brand under Tata Motors, one of several automakers competing in India's growing electric passenger vehicle segment. Hopcharge operates mobile EV charging units and has been active in the NCR region.

The financial terms of the arrangement and the number of vans to be deployed have not been disclosed. It is also not clear whether the service will expand beyond the NCR, and no timeline has been announced.
