Tata Sierra teased ahead of November 25 launch

Tata Motors has dropped a first official teaser of the Sierra SUV, confirming that the iconic nameplate is finally returning to showrooms later this month.

The new Sierra will be offered with a wide range of powertrains. The internal combustion engine (ICE) variants are expected to arrive first, followed by the Sierra EV, which will feature a slightly different exterior treatment compared to the ICE version teased officially.

In Tata’s growing SUV lineup, the new Sierra will slot above the Curvv and below the Harrier, targeting the sweet spot of the mid-size SUV market. Prices are expected to start at around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level variants, with top-end models commanding a healthy premium depending on the chosen powertrain and trim.

A true callback to the 1990s original, the new Sierra retains several signature design cues notably the curved rear glass, tall bonnet with upright stance and muscular wheel arches. It features a connected LED DRL signature, slim LED headlamps, and 19-inch alloys that give it a strong stance.

Under the hood, the Sierra will debut Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine, first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. Entry variants are expected to use a naturally aspirated iteration of the same engine for a more accessible price point. The diesel Sierra is likely to carry forward the 1.5-litre Revotorq unit from the Curvv SUV. The Sierra EV, meanwhile is expected to target a real-world range in excess of 450–500km. It will rival the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV and Mahindra BE 6, focusing on efficiency, performance and advanced connectivity.

Inside, there are talks that the Sierra could get a three-screen layout, similar to what we’ve seen on the Mahindra XEV 9e. The setup will likely comprise a 12.3-inch digital cluster, 12.3-inch central infotainment display, and an additional passenger-side screen. Cabin highlights will include a dual-tone dashboard, four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and wireless charging. Safety kit will be comprehensive, with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESC, and Level 2 ADAS.
The Tata Sierra remains one of India’s cult automotive icons, remembered for its distinctive design and butch SUV appeal. The new Sierra has big shoes to fill especially when it is pitted with segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, the Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris and also the Kushaq and Taigun among others.
