Tata Punch, Nexon Take Top Two Spots in June Passenger Vehicles Sales
The two SUVs contributed over 63% of Tata Motors’ domestic passenger-vehicle dispatches during the month.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ Punch and Nexon emerged as India’s two highest-selling passenger vehicles by wholesale dispatches in June 2026, helping the automaker retain the second position in the domestic passenger-vehicle market during the month.
The Punch recorded wholesales of 21,006 units, while the Nexon followed with 18,335 units, according to model-wise industry data. The two Tata SUVs finished ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which clocked 17,899 units, and the WagonR, at 16,952 units.
Together, the Punch and Nexon contributed 39,341 units, accounting for over 63% of Tata Motors’ domestic passenger-vehicle wholesales of 62,076 units during June.
Tata’s domestic passenger-vehicle dispatches increased 67% from 37,083 units in June 2025. Including exports, total sales rose 69% to 63,083 units from 37,237 units a year earlier.
The company finished behind Maruti Suzuki, which dispatched 1,47,187 passenger vehicles in the domestic market, but narrowly remained ahead of Mahindra & Mahindra, which sold 60,393 SUVs.
The gap between Tata Motors and Mahindra stood at just 1,683 units during the month.
The performance underlined the importance of the Punch and Nexon to Tata Motors’ passenger-vehicle business. The two compact SUVs have been among its key volume drivers, supported by their availability across petrol, diesel, CNG and electric powertrains.
Punch, Nexon Lead SUV Chart
The Punch led the SUV market with 21,006 wholesale dispatches, followed by the Nexon at 18,335 units. Mahindra’s Scorpio range ranked third among SUVs with 14,097 units, while Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx followed with 13,135 units.
The Hyundai Venue recorded 10,776 units, ahead of the Mahindra XUV 3XO at 10,063 units and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris at 10,035 units.
The Brezza clocked 9,939 units, followed by the Kia Seltos at 9,654 units and the Mahindra XUV 7XO at 9,244 units.
Seven of the 10 leading SUVs crossed the 10,000-unit mark during June, highlighting the continued strength of compact and midsize utility vehicles in the Indian passenger-vehicle market.
Dzire Leads Other Models
Among the other leading passenger vehicles, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire ranked third overall with wholesales of 17,899 units.
The WagonR followed with 16,952 units, while the Ertiga recorded 16,111 units and the Swift clocked 15,215 units.
The Scorpio and Fronx, which also featured in the SUV ranking, occupied the seventh and eighth positions, respectively, in the overall model chart.
The Baleno recorded 12,488 units, while the Hyundai Venue completed the list of the 10 highest-selling models with 10,776 units.
The presence of the Dzire, WagonR, Swift and Baleno in the top 10 showed that sedans and hatchbacks continued to generate sizeable factory dispatches even as SUVs dominated the broader market.
Maruti Retains Overall Lead
Maruti Suzuki remained India’s largest passenger-vehicle manufacturer by domestic wholesale volume in June. Its dispatches rose 23.7% year on year to 1,47,187 units.
Its model portfolio was widely represented in the overall top-10 chart. The Dzire, WagonR, Ertiga and Swift occupied four of the six positions immediately behind the Punch and Nexon, while the Fronx and Baleno also featured among the leading models.
Tata Motors recorded the strongest year-on-year growth among the leading passenger-vehicle manufacturers. Its domestic wholesales increased 67% to 62,076 units, driven by the Punch and Nexon.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s domestic passenger-vehicle wholesales rose 28% to 60,393 units from 47,306 units in June 2025. The Scorpio, XUV 3XO and XUV 7XO were among the 10 largest-selling SUVs during the month.
The model rankings extended Tata Motors’ momentum from the second half of FY26, when the Nexon and Punch emerged as its key volume drivers. Their position at the top of the June wholesale chart shows that the momentum continued at the start of FY27.
