Tata Power Renewables Commissions 1 GW DCR-Compliant Solar Project for SJVN

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 1 GW (1,000 MW AC / 1,400 MWp DC) domestically manufactured (DCR-compliant) solar power project for SJVN Limited. This is the largest solar project delivered by TPREL to date and one of the largest DCR-compliant projects commissioned in India.

The project is located across the Bandarwala and Karnisar Bhatiyan sites in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. Power generated from the project will be supplied to multiple states, with 500 MW allocated to Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL), 300 MW to Jammu & Kashmir Power Limited (JKPL), and 200 MW to Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL).

All solar modules used in the project, around 2.4 million units, were manufactured at TP Solar Limited’s facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The project uses DCR-compliant solar cells, mono bifacial modules, and high-capacity inverters designed to operate under high temperature variations. According to the company, the plant has been engineered to function in conditions ranging from summer temperatures of up to 50°C to winter lows of around 3°C.

The project is expected to generate approximately 2,454.84 million units of electricity in its first year of operation. Tata Power estimates that this output could offset about 1.74 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

TPREL said the project also had a local economic impact, with more than 300 workers employed during construction and over 25 local vendors engaged as part of the supply and execution process.

With this commissioning, TPREL’s third-party utility-scale renewable energy capacity has reached 4.9 GW. Tata Power’s total renewable utility-scale capacity now stands at 11.6 GW. Of this, 5.8 GW is currently operational, comprising 4.7 GW of solar and 1.1 GW of wind capacity, while another 5.8 GW is under implementation across solar and wind projects.

Tata Power’s overall generation portfolio totals 15.9 GW, spanning renewable and conventional power generation, transmission, distribution, trading, storage solutions, and solar manufacturing. Clean energy accounts for about 44% of its installed capacity. The company has stated its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.
