Tata Motors has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited (WREPL) to jointly develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project that will supply power to four of the commercial vehicle maker's manufacturing plants in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.

The project is expected to generate around 200 million units of renewable electricity annually and offset more than 1.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The energy generated will be supplied exclusively to Tata Motors' manufacturing facilities supporting commercial vehicle production under a long-term PPA backed by co-investment from both companies.

According to the companies, the hybrid wind-solar project is intended to increase the share of renewable energy in Tata Motors' manufacturing operations and contribute towards its RE100 commitment, which targets sourcing 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy by 2030. The initiative also forms part of the company's broader roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions in its manufacturing operations.

"This project reflects Tata Motors' continued focus on building greener and more energy-efficient manufacturing operations. The scale and integrated nature of this wind-solar hybrid solution will help us secure a reliable supply of renewable energy for key commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities, while meaningfully reducing carbon emissions across operations on a sustained basis," said Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors.
