Tata Motors veteran Ashish Tandon steps down

Advancing the penetration of the ACE EV—a cornerstone in Tata Motors’ foray into last-mile electrification, was a highlight of Tandon's career.

Ashish Tandon, a seasoned executive and key architect behind Tata Motors’ small commercial vehicle (SCV) strategy, has resigned from his post, sources close to the matter revealed. Tandon, who held the title of Senior General Manager, informed colleagues of his departure through an internal email. Efforts to secure a comment from Tata Motors’ spokesperson went unanswered at the time of publication.

Over a career spanning two decades at Tata Motors, as per his professional network profile, Tandon carved a reputation as a strategist and executor in the commercial vehicles sector. His most recent role, which began in October 2020, placed him at the helm of SCV product strategy. Among his notable achievements was advancing the penetration of the ACE EV—a cornerstone in Tata Motors’ foray into last-mile electrification.

Before this, Tandon directed sales and service operations for Tata Motors’ commercial vehicles in the western region, a tenure that lasted from August 2017 to October 2020. Charged with managing an annual turnover exceeding Rs 10,000 crore and overseeing the sale of over 90,000 units, Tandon’s leadership yielded growth in market share, increased revenue realization, and a revitalized dealer network.

As Regional Head (October 2013-August 2017) he was instrumental in crafting new business models that empowered local entrepreneurs as SCV channel partners, fostering profitability and operational resilience across the value chain.

Tandon’s forward-looking approach also included steering Project Coral, a micro-truck initiative slated for future market introduction.

Tandon’s professional journey began before Tata Motors, with stints at TAFE Tractors and Mahindra & Mahindra, where he developed expertise automotive sales and marekting  stategies.
