Tata Motors maintained its market presence in India's passenger vehicle sector, registering 73,449 retail units in October 2026, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
The company secured a 14.47 percent market share during the month, retaining its position as the second-largest passenger vehicle maker in the country. This is an improvement year-on-year, as it held 13.52 percent of the market in October 2025, albeit with higher retails of 80,020 units.
Maruti Suzuki kept its lead in the segment, recording 211,996 retail units, capturing a 41.75 percent market share. However, Tata outperformed other OEMs, with Mahindra closely behind with 64,982 retail units and a 12.80 percent market share, Hyundai Motor India registered 58,099 units with an 11.44 percent share, and Kia India posted 30,799 units accounting for a 6.07 percent share.
The broader passenger vehicle industry experienced a year-on-year contraction due to a shift in the festival calendar compared to October 2025. Diwali was during October in 2025, boosting sales, but falls in November this year.
Retails stood at 507,768 units industry-wide, marking an 18.86 percent increase over September 2026, but a 14.43 decline compared to October 2025.
This comes after Tata Motors registered its highest-ever monthly dispatches in October, with 73,894 units. The record-breaking volume was heavily supported by strong EV uptake, which constituted 16,244 units.
FADA also noted elevated inventory levels of 43 to 45 days, across the entire industry, after record dispatches during October. However, with the Dhanteras-to-Diwali retail wave underway, it anticipated inventory levels to normalize back into the 30-day range by the end of the calendar year.
