Tata Motors Retains No. 2 in Vahaan; Market Grows 25% in Feb 2026

Tata Motors has emerged as the second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India in February 2026, based on Vahan registration data excluding Telangana, even as the overall market grew 24.93% year-on-year.

The company registered 50,654 units during the month, marking a sharp 43.29% growth over February 2025. Its market share rose to 13.67%, up 1.75 percentage points from 11.92% a year ago. This makes Tata the fastest-growing major OEM among the top five manufacturers for the month.

Mahindra registered 49,900 units in February 2026, growing 20.07% year-on-year. However, its market share declined to 13.46% from 14.01% last year, reflecting a 0.55 percentage point erosion. The shift in relative growth momentum enabled Tata to edge past Mahindra in registrations for the month.

Hyundai Motor India posted 45,213 registrations, up 17.26% year-on-year, but its market share slipped to 12.20% from 13.00%. Toyota also recorded double-digit growth of 14%, though its share declined to 7.04%.

Market leader Maruti Suzuki continued to strengthen its position. The company registered 1,53,604 units in February, up 28.06% year-on-year. Its market share improved to 41.45% from 40.43%.

Overall, total passenger vehicle registrations stood at 3,70,616 units in February 2026 compared with 2,96,657 units in February 2025.

Tata’s sharp growth, significantly ahead of the industry average, signals sustained traction in its portfolio and highlights an intensifying competitive battle in India’s SUV-led passenger vehicle market.
