Tata Motors Reports Mixed July 2025 Sales Performance with Record EV Numbers

Tata Motors Limited reported total sales of 69,131 units in July 2025, marking a 4% decline from 71,996 units sold in the corresponding period last year. The Mumbai-based automaker's performance showed contrasting trends across segments, with commercial vehicles demonstrating growth while passenger vehicles faced headwinds.

The company's domestic and international sales reached 69,131 units in July 2025, compared to 71,996 units during July 2024. Domestic sales accounted for 65,953 units, representing a 6% year-on-year decline from 70,161 units in July 2024.

Commercial Vehicle Segment Shows Resilience

Commercial vehicle sales provided the month's bright spot, with total CV sales reaching 28,956 units, registering a 7% year-on-year growth compared to 27,042 units in July 2024. Domestic CV sales stood at 26,432 units, up 4% from 25,436 units in the previous year.

The heavy commercial vehicle trucks segment recorded sales of 6,735 units compared to 6,493 units in July 2024, marking a 4% increase. Intermediate and Light Medium Commercial Vehicle trucks showed stronger performance with 5,068 units sold, representing a 17% growth from 4,341 units in the same period last year.

Passenger carriers maintained steady momentum with 4,749 units sold versus 4,424 units in July 2024, achieving 7% growth. However, small commercial vehicle cargo and pickup segments experienced a marginal decline of 3%, with sales dropping to 9,880 units from 10,178 units.

Passenger Vehicle Segment Faces Challenges

The passenger vehicle division encountered difficulties in July 2025, with total PV sales declining 11% to 40,175 units from 44,954 units in July 2024. Domestic PV sales, including electric vehicles, fell 12% to 39,521 units compared to 44,725 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

International business for passenger vehicles showed improvement with 654 units sold, representing a significant 186% increase from 229 units in July 2024. This growth, however, could not offset the domestic market decline.

Electric Vehicle Sales Reach New Heights

Despite the overall passenger vehicle segment decline, Tata Motors achieved its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle sales with 7,124 units, marking a 42% year-on-year increase from 5,027 units in July 2024. This milestone represents a significant step in the company's zero-emission journey.

The EV performance includes sales from both Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, subsidiaries of Tata Motors Limited.

Monthly Context and Recent Performance

July 2025's performance follows a challenging period for Tata Motors. In June 2025, the company had recorded some of its lowest monthly sales figures, with passenger vehicle domestic sales hitting 37,083 units - the lowest since February 2022.

Tata Motors posted total sales of 2,10,415 units (including both commercial and passenger vehicles) in the first quarter of FY2026, down from 2,25,891 units in Q1, FY205. It was a YoY decline of 6 percent.

Tata Motors Limited sales in the domestic & international market for May 2025 stood at 70,187 units, compared to 76,766 units during May 2024. This indicates that July's 69,131 units represent a slight decline even from May's performance.

Industry Context and Market Position

The automotive sector has faced various challenges in recent months, including seasonal factors, competitive pressures, and changing consumer preferences.

Tata Motors' commercial vehicle segment's resilience reflects the company's strong position in the commercial transportation market, while the passenger vehicle segment's decline mirrors broader industry trends.

Tata Motors reported wholesales of 124,809 units in Q1 FY26, including 16,231 EV units, underscoring our commitment to aligning wholesale and registration volumes. EV sales gained strong momentum towards the end of the quarter with a healthy growth trajectory.

Company Outlook

The mixed July results highlight Tata Motors' strategic focus on electric mobility amid challenging market conditions. The record EV sales demonstrate the company's growing competitiveness in sustainable transportation solutions, even as traditional passenger vehicle sales face pressure.

The company continues to operate through subsidiaries including Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, both focusing on different aspects of the passenger vehicle market.

The performance data encompasses sales from these entities along with the parent company's commercial vehicle operations.

Tata Motors maintains its commitment to regulatory compliance, with sales data released pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015, ensuring transparency for investors and stakeholders.
