Tata Motors opens bookings for India’s first AMT CNG Cars

Tata Motors has revealed automatic models of its CNG-powered Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan. This is the first time in India that factory-fitted CNG vehicles are offered with an automatic gearbox. Bookings have opened for a token amount of Rs 21,000 and the cars are likely to launch tomorrow.

The Tiago iCNG automatic is available on the XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG and XZA NRG variants, while the Tigor iCNG automatic is available on just two variants – XZA CNG and XZA+ CNG.

The Tata Tiago and Tigor are already offered with CNG options albeit only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The models are powered by a 1.2-litre engine that produces 86hp, 113Nm under petrol power and 73hp, 95Nm when powered by CNG. The CNG models get a 5-speed AMT as the gearbox choice for the automatic models. Tata Motors has said that it has tweaked the gearbox in order to give the CNG automatic vehicles better low-speed driveabality in slow-moving traffic and while parking.

The company has also introduced new colour options: 'Tornado Blue' for the Tiago, 'Grassland Beige' for the Tiago NRG and 'Meteor Bronze' for the Tigor.

Tata Motors’ CNG portfolio

Tata Motors has led the way in the country when it comes to making CNG models more user-friendly. Last year, with the launch of the Altroz iCNG, the company was the first to offer a hatchback with a sunroof on a CNG-powered model. Apart from creature comforts like a sunroof, the company also addressed a major problem with CNG vehicles – boot space. By splitting a large 60-litre tank into two, 30-litre cylinders and placing them beneath the floor of the boot of the Altroz iCNG, Tata Motors freed up boot space and made the CNG vehicles more practical.

Tata Motors also offers CNG models of cars like the Punch and Altroz.
