Tata Motors has announced that it has received an order from Haryana Roadways for 1,000 buses. As stipulated in the contract, the Mumbai-based automaker will deliver the 52-seater fully built BS6 diesel buses in phases. The e-bidding process was carried out through the Government tender process, the company said in a statement.
Commenting on the development Rohit Srivastava, Vice President, Product Line – Buses, Tata Motors, said, “The delivery of these buses will further fortify our partnership with the State Government of Haryana and help in offering modern public transport to the citizens of the state.”
Navdeep Singh Virk, Principal Secretary to Government, Transport Department, Haryana said, “The induction of the new buses will help in making inter-state public transport even more efficient, allowing smooth commute across the state of Haryana.”
The announcement comes just days after Tata Motors declared in mid-October that it has won a tender for 200 electric buses for Jammu and Srinagar from Jammu Smart City. These vehicles will be stationed in Jammu and Kashmir's twin capital cities. As part of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir's initiative for environmentally friendly public transportation, 150 units of nine-metre and 50 units of 12-metre Starbus electric buses will be supplied. Tata Motors will supply, operate, and maintain Tata Starbus electric buses for a 12-year period as part of the contract.
Similarly, Tata Motors was awarded a 12-year contract to supply 921 units of 12-metre electric buses to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) in August. Further during the same month, West Bengal Transport Corporation awarded a contract to Tata Motors for the deployment of 1,180 electric buses under the Convergence Energy Services 'Grand Challenge' initiative.
Tata Motors will design, manufacture, and supply WBTC with electric buses, as well as develop the necessary charging infrastructure. It plans to deliver all 1,180 e-buses by the end of 2023. The project calls for the purchase of four types of e-buses: 12-meter low-floor AC, standard floor non-AC, nine-meter standard-floor AC, and standard floor non-AC buses.
