Tata Elxsi partners with CSIR-NAL to improve air mobility solutions
Tata Elxsi and CSIR-NAL have signed an MoU to develop technologies for UAVs, UAM, and eVTOL aircraft, focusing on innovation, testing, and creating an ecosystem to meet global and Indian aerospace needs.
Tata Elxsi, a provider of design and technology services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) to establish a strategic partnership aimed at advancing air mobility. The collaboration focuses on developing technologies for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
This partnership combines CSIR-NAL's aeronautical expertise with Tata Elxsi’s capabilities in areas such as electrification, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, and certification processes. Together, they aim to cater to the growing needs of global and Indian markets in the aerospace sector.
The evolving global market for UAVs and UAM spans industries like logistics, agriculture, defense, and urban transportation. This partnership seeks to streamline product development cycles by leveraging advanced testing infrastructure, methodologies, and expertise. The focus will include key areas such as aerodynamic design, autonomous systems, and secure communication technologies to address both manned and unmanned air mobility requirements.
India offers opportunities for growth through initiatives such as "Make in India," increased indigenization, and a rising demand for advanced air mobility solutions. The collaboration aims to support the development of a strong ecosystem comprising precision manufacturing, component suppliers, and tool vendors. It will also contribute to shaping industry regulations and standards, creating a framework for innovation and commercialization within the country.
Manoj Raghavan, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Elxsi, stated that the partnership with CSIR-NAL will drive innovation in aerospace and urban air mobility, combining expertise to develop next-generation air mobility solutions. Dr. Abhay A. Pashilkar, Director at CSIR-NAL, highlighted the collaboration's potential to integrate aerospace research with technology and design expertise for scalable and sustainable solutions.
The partnership also envisions fostering an ecosystem that integrates precision manufacturing, tools, components, and vendor partnerships, aiming to bring together stakeholders to promote innovation and enhance urban transportation technologies.
