Tata Elxsi Demonstrates Digital Battery Tracking System at Summit

Technology company showcases blockchain-based platform to track battery lifecycle from manufacturing to recycling for regulatory compliance.

Tata Elxsi presented its Battery Aadhaar technology demonstrator at the Battery Summit 2025 in Bangalore on May 28, showcasing a digital system designed to track batteries throughout their lifecycle. The demonstration was part of a consortium initiative supported by the UNEP-led 'Electrifying Mobility in Cities' programme and coordinated by NITI Aayog and the Department of Science & Technology.

The Battery Aadhaar concept assigns digital identities to batteries, enabling tracking from raw material sourcing through manufacturing, usage, and recycling. The system captures data including manufacturer details, usage patterns, and material composition to support compliance with regulatory requirements and prevent unsafe battery reuse.

Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, attended the demonstration along with government stakeholders. The presentation included consortium partners Tata Motors, Tata AutoComp Systems, IIT Kharagpur, World Resources Institute, LOHUM Cleantech, NUNAM Technologies, and Oorja Energy.

Built on Tata Elxsi's MOBIUS+ platform, the system uses blockchain technology to create tamper-proof records and provides role-based dashboards for different stakeholders including manufacturers, recyclers, and regulators. The platform includes features for battery health prediction and remaining useful life estimation through real-time analytics.

India's push toward electric mobility has created demand for battery tracking systems as the country seeks to establish circular economy practices in the automotive sector. The government has been developing policies to manage the growing volume of electric vehicle batteries and ensure proper recycling and disposal.

The platform is designed to align with Indian regulatory frameworks while maintaining compatibility with international standards including EU Battery Regulation and emerging requirements in Japan and North America. The system includes an AI component for regulatory interpretation and automated compliance reporting.

Summit attendees accessed live battery data through QR codes during the demonstration, providing a practical view of how the digital tracking system would function in real-world applications. The modular design allows different ecosystem participants to integrate with the platform according to their specific requirements.

Anil Radhakrishnan, Chief Product Officer at Tata Elxsi, said the MOBIUS+ platform aims to support digital transparency and compliance in the mobility sector. The company positions the technology as supporting India's transition to sustainable transportation systems.

The Battery Summit 2025 was organized by the World Resources Institute India, bringing together stakeholders from across the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem to discuss policy, technology, and market developments in the sector.
