Tata Elxsi has announced its collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to drive advancements in Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). The partnership focuses on developing and leveraging virtual models of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ solutions for cloud-native application development.
As part of the collaboration, Tata Elxsi will create virtual electronic control unit (ECU) platforms using Snapdragon virtual system-on-chips (VSoCs). These platforms are aimed at automakers and Tier-1 suppliers to enhance mobility solutions for passenger, commercial, and off-highway vehicle segments. The goal is to streamline and accelerate the SDV development process by reducing reliance on physical hardware, thereby expediting software development and validation.
At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, Tata Elxsi will showcase its AVENIR™ SDV suite integrated with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride™ Flex SoC. The demonstration will include real-world applications for infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), emphasizing a cloud-native and virtualized approach to automotive software development.
Shaju S, Vice President and Head of Transportation Business Unit at Tata Elxsi, highlighted the potential of the collaboration, stating that the integration of the AVENIR suite with Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions provides a scalable option for automakers to adopt SDV technologies. He noted that this approach combines software expertise, virtualized models, and ready-to-use SDV software to support the development of next-generation mobility solutions.
Laxmi Rayapudi, Vice President of Automotive Software Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasised the advantages of cloud-native environments for early software development. She mentioned that using Snapdragon virtual SoCs alongside Tata Elxsi’s AVENIR suite enables cost-effective development and reduces time to market for new applications. The approach also supports continuous software updates throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle, offering new features and enhancing the overall consumer experience.
