Tata Curvv revealed in production-spec form

Tata Motors has finally revealed the exterior of its Curvv coupe SUV’s production version. The company showcased the Curvv first as an electric concept in April 2022 and then in its ICE form in January 2023. While it has yet to reveal the Curvv’s interior, we got a peek inside via a VR display.

Tata Curvv production version: how it differs from the concept

As expected, nothing much has changed from concept to production form except for a few details. For instance the EV’s exterior cameras make way for regular outside rear view mirrors, the DRL’s do not extend up into the bonnet and the split rear spoiler is now a single, smaller unit.

Tata Curvv exterior design

At the front the Curvv looks very similar to the Nexon on which it is based and between the ICE and EV version there are a few differences. The electric Curvv has a nose-mounted charging flap akin to the Tata Punch EV and the lower bumper area has multiple vertical styling elements. On the ICE version these are smaller horizontal elements which carry over to the front grille too. Both versions have triangular recesses for the headlights and the DRL unit stretches across the width of the car.

Unlike the front, at the Curvv differs a lot from the Nexon. Its clearly longer and the coupe roof life dips sharply down. The wheel arches are also squarish or ‘squircle’ in shape. The ICE version carries a fuel filler flap on the left rear fender and sports petal-like 5 spoke alloys, the EV differs with a more closed off alloy rim for better aero efficiency. Both cars have pop out flush door handles and feature prominent black cladding below.

At the rear both cars have a rooftop mounted spoiler and while it is a single piece unit it dips in the centre mimicking the spilt spoiler from the concept. The tail-light unit is the same on both and stretches across the rear topping the Tata logo unit. Both cars also have the lower bumper section finished in silver trim and on the ICE version the exhaust is hidden below.

While the company is yet to showcase the insides of the Curvv it did allow us a small peak at what the final production version would look like via an interactive VR headset at its UK design studio. Pretty much everything carries over from the Nexon, like the two spoke steering wheel with the illuminated logo, the floating touchscreen and the touch panel controls. On the Curvv however Tata Motors says it will offer different colour schemes and the insides we saw had the dashboard trim panel finished in the a nice metallic silver carbon fibre weave with the lower leather section done in a rich maroon shade.

Tata Curvv expected price

Tata Motors will launch the electric Curvv first, expected on the August 7 and will follow that up with the petrol and diesel versions. Interestingly while the body style makes it a niche offering, Tata Motors says its pricing, powertrain choices and many variants will ensure it takes on all competitors in the mid-size SUV space and the company says it is gunning for being a major segment player like it is with the Punch and Nexon.
