Switch Mobility has commenced delivery of the first batch of its Switch EiV12 low-floor electric city buses to the Department of Transport, Delhi, marking a significant step in the capital’s public transport electrification drive.
The rollout follows a major order for 950 electric buses awarded to Switch Mobility under a tender issued by Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL). The flag-off ceremony was held in New Delhi and attended by key dignitaries, including Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh, Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, and senior officials from the Delhi Transport Department and Switch Mobility .
Also present were Niharika Rai, Commissioner, Department of Transport, Delhi; Prince Dhawan, Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC); Dr. Chadda, Senior Advisor, Hinduja Group; R.G. Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer, Switch Mobility ; and Saurabh Chaudhary, CEO of Ohm Global Mobility, the fleet operator.
Manufactured at Switch Mobility ’s advanced production facility in India, the 12-meter EiV12 buses are designed to meet the demands of high-frequency urban transit. Each bus accommodates up to 39 seated passengers and features an ultra-low-floor design to facilitate easy boarding, particularly for elderly and differently-abled commuters. The vehicles are equipped with accessibility features such as wheelchair ramps, CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, and GPS tracking systems.
The buses are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries mounted on the floor, which contribute to a lower center of gravity and improved stability. An integrated Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) enhances operational safety. Charging is supported through a rear-mounted dual-gun interface, enabling faster turnaround times and efficient use of depot infrastructure.
Switch EiV12 buses are also enabled with the company’s proprietary telematics platform, Switch iON, which allows real-time monitoring of vehicle health, intelligent fleet management, and integration with transportation management systems.

Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer, Switch Mobility , stated, “The delivery of the EiV12 electric buses to Delhi supports the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize its public transport network. These buses combine global engineering standards with local manufacturing capabilities, aiming to improve service reliability, reduce emissions, and enhance commuter experience.”
The deployment aligns with Delhi’s broader goal of maintaining the largest electric bus fleet in India. The introduction of these zero-emission buses is expected to contribute to reduced air pollution and lower carbon dioxide emissions across the city’s transport network.
Switch Mobility , a part of the Hinduja Group and leveraging engineering expertise from Ashok Leyland, has deployed over 1,250 electric buses globally, collectively logging more than 150 million kilometers. The company also operates a growing fleet of electric light commercial vehicles under its IeV Series, with over 1,000 units currently in service.
