SWITCH Mobility, a global manufacturer of electric buses and light commercial vehicles and part of the Hinduja Group, has dispatched the first batch of 10 electric buses to Mauritius. These units are part of an order for 100 EiV12 electric buses destined for the National Transport Corporation (NTC) of Mauritius.
The shipment was formally flagged off in a ceremonial event attended by Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius; Hon. Osman Mahomed, Minister of Land Transport; Shri Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius; and other senior officials from both nations.
The delivery follows a government-to-government arrangement, under which the 100 electric buses are being provided as a gift from the Government of India to the Government of Mauritius. The initiative aims to support the modernization and sustainability of public transportation in Mauritius.
The SWITCH EiV12 buses were manufactured at the company’s production facility in Chennai, reflecting India’s growing role in the global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing sector. Designed for urban transit, the 12-meter-long buses can accommodate up to 45 passengers and are engineered to meet international standards for safety, performance, and durability.
Equipped with floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the buses feature a low center of gravity for improved stability. They also include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), enhancing safety for passengers and operators. Charging is facilitated through a dual-gun interface at the rear, enabling faster turnaround times and efficient use of depot space.
The vehicles are powered by SWITCH iON, the company’s proprietary telematics system, which enables real-time monitoring of vehicle health, intelligent transport management, and fleet optimization.
The procurement process was managed by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a public sector enterprise under India’s Ministry of Power, through an open tender. The buses will be operated by NTC, Mauritius’ state-owned public transport agency.

The EiV12 model combines global technology with Indian manufacturing capabilities, supporting Mauritius’ efforts to transition toward cleaner urban transport.”
The deployment aligns with broader environmental and urban development goals in Mauritius, focusing on reducing emissions and improving public transit efficiency. It also highlights India’s increasing capacity to design, manufacture, and export advanced electric vehicles to international markets.
This export is seen as a milestone in SWITCH Mobility’s global expansion and reinforces India’s position as an emerging hub for sustainable transportation manufacturing.
